The Scottish Terrier

One of the best known of the Highland terriers, it was developed 150 years ago to hunt rats and other small animals.

The Scottish Terrier is alert and spirited but also stable and steady-going. They are fearless, and independent. They require early socialization and obedience training. They are devoted to their families and get along with children if raised with them, especially young children.

They may be aggressive with other animals, including cats and dogs, if not raised with them. They can bark a lot and are natural watchdogs.

They can live anywhere as long as they are given daily exercise, but must be kept in safe, enclosed areas when off-leash, because they are likely to chase small animals. Scotties need to be brushed one to two times a week and trimmed every three months.

Height: 10-11 inches
Weight: 18-22 lbs.
Life Span: 12-15 yrs.
