The Rottweiler
In Germany, which is considered the Rottweiler's country of origin, breeding is strictly controlled by the breed society. Only the best specimens may be bred from and litters are culled to permit the raising of no more than six puppies per litter. First specimens came to this continent in the early 1930s. In 1935 the Rottweiler was accepted for registration by the American Kennel Club, and in 1938 the first two Rottweilers were recorded in The Canadian Kennel Club Stud Book. A Rottweiler is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see
attitude to influences in his environment. He has an inherent desire to
protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog of extreme hardness
and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making him especially
suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose dog. Special alert: Rottweilers are especially prone to catch Parvovirus, read this article and find out how to protect your new Rottweiler puppy from this deadly virus.
