The Mastiff

Mastiffs have been living in Europe and Asia for thousands of years. There are reference to large Mastiff-type dogs going back to antiquity. Today's Mastiffs trace their origin to two English strains. The Mastiff was breed for hunting, guard and fighting.

Mastiffs are couragous, loyal and make excellent watchdogs. Properly socialized and trained, they are gentle and easygoing.

They love children and usually get along with other animals. They can be stubborn when being obedience trained but must be trained with patience and kindness.

They are friendly with strangers, but may be territorial. They are powerful and massive dogs, so good obedience training is important to avoid any dominance proglems.

Mastiffs love human contacts and needs to be part of the family acitivities. Some can be heavy droolers.
