The Irish Terrier

The Irish terrier is one of the oldest terrier breeds. Admired for it's unconquerable spirit, it was widely used as guard dog and for hunting foxes, rats and other animals. During World War II this fearless terrier was used as a patrol and messenger dog.

Irish terriers are loyal, lively and affectionate Family dogs. Some lines can be highly protective and good obedience training is required to control aggressive toward other dogs. His life is one continuous and eager offering of loyal and faithful companionship and devotion. They are always on guard, and stands between his home and any possible threats. They can mistake cats as prey and need to be raised with them from early age. When properly trained, the Irish terrier is a good companion in the city or country.

They need to be brushed or combed twice a week and trimmed every three months. To avoid behavioral problems, such as nonstop barking or digging, they need proper exercice and play in a secured area.
