The Chihuahua

Little is known about the Chihuahua before its discovery in Mexico about 100 years ago. They may have been developed in the 9th century from the Techichi, a toy breed of the Toltec Indians of Central America. Or may have been brought to Central America by the Chinese or Spanish.

The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breeds in the world and come in smooth, short coat or in long coat. Because of their tiny size and sensitive nature, Chihuahuas are usually not suited for households with small children, but they are ideal companions for elderly people.

Chihuahua are intensely loyal and become very attached to its owner, sometime to the point of jealousy. As long as Chihuahuas are obedience-trained and socialized early, they make playful, confident companions. They learn quickly and responds well to training.

The Chihuahua requires only occasional brushing and short walks and is perfect for apartment living.
