The Turkish Van

The breed is a rare and ancient breed that was developed in central and southwest Asia and Turkey. "Van" is a common term in the region so it is no surprise that the uniquely patterned cat that is native to the region has been named "Van".

The pattern is a white, semi-longhaired cat with colored markings restricted to the head and tail. The Turkish Van is a large, active and intelligent breed. This cat has an unusually melodious voice and makes a lively companion. Their coat has a very unique cashmere-like texture. This unusual coat texture is due to the fact that the cats are waterproof and unlike other breeds they love water. In their native region they are some time called "the Swimming Cats".
