The Korat

Also known as the Si-Sawat, this beautiful breed originated in Thailand around 1300 and is now found in all parts of Thailand. The Korat takes its name from one province of Thailand. The firs pair, Nara and Darra, arrived in USA in 1959 and the Korat was accepted for championship in 1966.

With a combination of silver-blue fur tipped with silver, and luminous green eyes, this cat is a striking beauty. They have a muscular, semi-cobby body. The large eyes are luminous green with extraordinary depth and brilliance. They may be yellow or amber with a green tinge around the pupil in young cats, but change color as the cat matures.

These cats are gentle, sweet-natured and calm, and enjoy human company, particularly children, and they love attention. Their senses of sight, smell and hearing are unusually acute and they are excellent hunters for rodents.
