The Traditional Balinese

The traditional Balinese has a rounder, more moderate head and body type than the Balinese that we see in the show today.

With it's luxurious swaying tail, the Balinese has a natural grace. The Balinese is a Siamese with semi-long fur. During the 1930's, many Siamese breeders tried to produce a longhaired Siamese by crossing them with Turkish Angoras. Since most of the offspring were shorthaired, the breeders gave up.

But many of these shorthaired offspring were longhaired carrier and eventually they were mated together and produced the first longhaired Siamese. The Balinese has a single coat that lies close to the body.

The only point colors recognized by CFA are seal point, blue point, chocolate point and lilac point. As the Siamese, the Balinese is intelligent, active and inquisitive, but does not have a loud voice. These cats don't like to be left alone, so it is best to have two cats if the Balinese is to be left alone for long period of time.
